What is Hydro?

Hydropower utilizes the force of falling water to spin a turbine, which generates electricity and passes that electricity along to the local electrical grid. Hydropower is a clean, renewable source of energy, which does not utilize fossil fuels or contribute to air pollution.

Small, independently run hydropower facilities can be found contributing to green energy goals all across CT. In addition to generating clean electrons, hydropower can provide a number of benefits including black-start capabilities, a diversified electrical grid, dam safety, recreational lakes for boating, and passageways to help fish traverse rivers.
